Keeping Our Communities Safe from Wildfire Risks
At CPI, we are committed to safeguarding our members from wildfire risks. As part of this commitment, we continue to revise and update our Operational Wildfire Risk Mitigation Plan, aligning it with industry best practices. This plan, developed systematically, aims to reduce fire-related risks while ensuring reliable power delivery.
Our Operational Wildfire Risk Mitigation Plan focuses on three key components:
Vegetation Management: A Proactive Approach
Maintaining adequate clearance between vegetation and power lines is crucial for safe and reliable operations. Our vegetation management program includes:
– Regular tree trimming and removal of hazardous trees near power lines
– Inspections and monitoring of vegetation growth
– Collaboration with property owners and local agencies
System Hardening: Enhancing Infrastructure Resilience
We are actively hardening our electrical infrastructure to better withstand wildfire risks. Our efforts include:
– Expanding the use of fire-resistant materials like steel, ductile iron, and fiberglass in place of wood poles and crossarms.
– Strategically converting overhead power lines to underground lines where economically feasible.
-Ongoing investments in technology such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software, and electronically controlled reclosures.
System Coordination: Monitoring and Response
During wildfire season, our dedicated team closely monitors weather conditions, fire risks, and changing situations across our service territory. We have operational protocols in place to respond appropriately as local conditions dictate.
CPI maintains effective communication and coordination with state and local emergency management, and first responder agencies. We have established procedures for sharing real-time information and coordinating our response efforts to ensure the safety of our communities.
